MGM Grand Detroit will be continuing sponsorship of Metro Detroit-owned Gutierrez Brothers Racing. This marks the third year of the partnership with brothers Phil and JP Gutierrez who compete in the NHRA’s Top Alcohol Dragster series.
The team will be representing MGM Grand Detroit at events throughout Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois in the 2016 season. Driven by JP Gutierrez, the GBR dragster is a purpose-built race car with a 300 inch wheelbase and is powered by an aluminum supercharged Hemi racing engine that can produce an estimated 3400 horsepower on alcohol racing fuel.
“MGM Grand Detroit is excited to partner with Michigan-based Gutierrez Brothers Racing for another season. Their dedication to continuous improvement and their commitment to the community aligns with our goals and culture,” said Steve Zanella, president and COO at MGM Grand Detroit. “Phil and JP are passionate about racing and the community. We are proud to have the team display the MGM Grand Detroit brand throughout the Midwest.”
The 2016 dragster will be unveiled at the 64th annual Meguiar’s Detroit Autorama on Feb. 26 at COBO Hall. The dragster will make several additional appearances in Metro Detroit throughout 2016 including at the Annual Cruisin’ to Drive Out Hunger Dream Cruise preview party to help promote Forgotten Harvest, a food bank dedicated to relieving hunger in Metro Detroit, in August.
