Persistent rain showers forced NHRA officials to cancel qualifying on Friday for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.
After a lengthy delay for track drying after an earlier rainfall that began shortly before noon, eight Pro Stock cars were able to get down the track before consistent showers returned to the track located northeast of Atlanta. Rickie Jones in his 2013 Camaro led those drivers who made qualifying runs with a time of 6.596 seconds at 210.11 mph.
Qualifying resumes on Saturday with two sessions scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Eliminations are scheduled to take place on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
COMMERCE, Ga. — Friday’s results after the first one of three rounds of qualifying for the 33rd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, seventh of 24 events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Qualifying will continue Saturday for Sunday’s final eliminations.
