PHOTO GALLERY: ANRA Racers Battle for Fall Nationals Glory at Famoso

The American Nostalgia Racing Association came loaded for the Fall Nationals at Famoso Dragstrip, and when the final pairs rolled into the beams, there was no shortage of racers ready to put everything on the starting line.

From the Nostalgia Eliminator ranks and the hard-running Gas categories to Sportsman, Open Wheel, Hot Rod and Junior Dragsters, the Fall Nationals produced a long list of champions — with Bakersfield racers making their presence known and one father-and-son combination leaving Famoso with twice the reason to celebrate.

A/Gas delivered an all-Bakersfield showdown with Keith Molovich lining up against Kamaka Pocock for the title. Pocock entered eliminations as the No. 1 qualifier, but when the final round arrived, Molovich got the job done and walked away with the Fall Nationals championship.

Bakersfield struck again in D/Gas, where Jerimie Jennings squared off against Shilo Edwards of Atwater. Jennings prevailed in the final to add another hometown victory to the weekend.

The rest of the Gas contingent brought plenty of firepower of its own. Randy Armstrong of Paso Robles captured B/Gas over Greg Griffith of Lemoore, while Billy Teague of Sanger took down Gary Lynch of Sylmar for the C/Gas championship. Ronnie Prewett of Bloomington completed the Gas-class winners with an E/Gas victory over Jim Hulse of Porterville.

The Nostalgia Eliminator racers were equally busy settling championships.

Vince Generalao Jr. of Las Vegas took the Nostalgia Eliminator 1 crown over Dave Isley of Ontario, while Robert Johnson of Visalia defeated Robert “Duke” Baker of Thornton to claim Nostalgia Eliminator 2.

In Nostalgia Eliminator 3, Josh Kolb of Glendora denied Bakersfield’s Darren Beck the hometown victory, taking the final round and the Fall Nationals championship.

Sportsman belonged to Brad Thompson of Visalia, who defeated Sam Landsverk of Simi Valley, while Jeff Ball of Phelan claimed the Open Wheel championship over Randy Winkle of McFarland.

Then came one of the best stories of the weekend.

The Agnew family doubled up at Famoso. Michael Agnew of Oak Hills drove to the Hot Rod championship with a final-round victory over Frank Chimenti of Bear Valley Spring. But the Agnew family wasn’t finished collecting hardware. Michael’s son, Levi Agnew, delivered a championship of his own, defeating Kassidy Bowman in the Junior Comp final.

The Junior Dragster racers kept the win lights flashing as Audrey Frye of Taft captured Junior Group 1 over Bakersfield’s Mollie Norris. Easton Oliveira of Cypress claimed Junior Group 2 over Trevor Kirby of Anaheim, while Caden Casner of Miraloma defeated Alex Rees of Newark for the Junior Group 3 championship.

Bakersfield got one more victory from the Junior ranks when Brody Conner took the Junior Group 4 championship over Isabella Lily Pires of Madera.

When the final win lights had been decided, the ANRA Fall Nationals had delivered exactly what Famoso has long been known for — a starting line full of racers looking for one more win light and a diverse collection of machinery charging down the dragstrip.

For Molovich, Jennings, the Agnew father-and-son duo and the rest of the Fall Nationals champions, there was only one place left to go: Victory Lane.
