Track Record Gives Smith Provisional Pro Mod Pole in Atlanta

Reigning world champ Rickie Smith (above) set a new track record during the first day of qualifying of the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.

Smith’s IDG ’13 Camaro rocketed to a top performance of 5.840 seconds at 248.52 mph, setting the new E.T. record in Pro Mod at Atlanta Dragway. Smith is looking for his first career win in Atlanta and sits one run away from his fourth career No. 1 qualifying position.

Danny Rowe sits second after the first day of qualifying at the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series event in Atlanta, presented by the Real Pro Mod Association at this event, with a 5.872 pass at 247.29. 2014 race winners Mike Janis and Mike Castellana sit seventh and 17th after the first qualifying runs.

The Pro Mod Series qualifying concludes on Saturday at noon. First round of final eliminations are scheduled to begin Saturday at 2:45 p.m.

COMMERCE, Ga. — Friday’s results after the first two of three rounds of qualifying for the 34th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, the third of 10 events in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series.  Qualifying will continue Saturday for Saturday’s first round of eliminations.
