Staging Lanes: ‘Snake Style’

Three-time NHRA Funny Car world champion and two-time U.S. Nationals winner Ron Capps brings his Don “The Snake” Prudhomme Army car-inspired NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra into the pre-stage beams under the guidance of crew chief Dean “Guido” Antonelli on race day at the 70th Toyota U.S. Nationals.

A follow-up to the “Snake” Hot Wheels tribute livery that Capps drove to victory at the 2023 Indy race, the red, white, and blue look was inspired by the dominant Army Funny Cars that Prudhomme drove in the mid-1970s though 1980. Nostalgic uniforms on the Ron Capps Motorsports crew members completed the look. It appeared Capps was on pace for a third consecutive win at the Big Go, but he ran into the seemingly unstoppable Austin Prock in the final round, the 150th of Capps’ career.
