Southeast Gassers Association To Race Historic Event At Gulfport Dragway This Weekend

SEGA photo

Gulfport Dragway touts itself as the “racecation destination!” This weekend it will be the Southeast Gassers Association’s destination for series history. Announced earlier this season, the Gulf Coast Nationals in Gulfport, Mississippi, will be a historic first for SEGA, in the event being a double race weekend. Qualifying and eliminations will take place both Friday (10/10) and Saturday (10/11) at Gulfport Dragway as SEGA competitors clamor for points nearing the close of the gasser championship season.

The seventh of what will be nine total SEGA championship races will take place Friday evening at Gulfport Dragway. Typically, for SEGA competitors and fans, Friday evenings host a test and tune session. The ease of just getting the car dialed in, along with a leisurely tone, certainly won’t be in Gulf air Friday night at Gulfport Dragway. Instead, it will hold qualifying and eliminations of a serious competitive nature, with the night counting towards the 2025 championship for all the SEGA categories. A wrinkle for the competition is the time at which the racing action will take place. The start time for the action on Friday is set for 4PM Central Time. That’s three hours later than the typical start time for SEGA. Once the two rounds of qualifying are completed, eliminations begin around sunset in southern Mississippi. SEGA will race the majority of eliminations for this race 1 of the Gulf Coast Nationals under the lights of Gulfport Dragway. With expected great track conditions, championship points on the line, and the rarity of SEGA cars under the lights for most of the race, Friday night is not a night to miss.

Action at Gulfport Dragway for SEGA will continue Saturday with race 2 of the weekend, making that day of racing the eighth of nine in the 2025 season. This race will start at the normal SEGA start time of 1 PM for qualifying, then immediately roll into eliminations. Though it may seem mundane, with the action the day prior, what storylines might develop? Who broke? Who misses or hits just right on the tune-up with different time track conditions? Can anyone double-up and leave the Gulf Coast Nationals at Gulfport Dragway with an event sweep?

With Cruisin’ The Coast—“America’s Largest Block Party”—rolling through town, the Gulf Coast is buzzing with cruise-in culture and classic car energy. Adding to the excitement, the Southeast Gassers Association brings its signature nostalgia drag racing to Gulfport Dragway, delivering a thrilling throwback to the golden era of 1960s gasser racing.

The Gulf Coast Nationals will feature a double-header weekend of pure, heads-up racing action—Friday and Saturday, it’s first to the finish line wins! This is a must-see event for car culture enthusiasts, where vintage speed meets authentic competition, all set against the backdrop of one of the country’s most iconic automotive gatherings

Gates open Friday (10/10) at 1 PM Central with on-track action beginning at 4 PM CT. Expect the gates to open at 9 AM CT on Saturday with action firing up at 1 PM CT. Friday and Saturday single-day passes can be purchased for $25 each. A two-day pass can be purchased for $40 each. Kids 10 and under get entry for free.
