The STM Powersports Snow Outlaws snowmobile drag racing series put on a freaking great race two weekends ago at their first season opener in two years. All that pent-up racing action is ready to unleash again this weekend, February 14-15, on Spirit Lake, hosted by Three Lakes-Brule River Trails at 1426 State Highway 32 in Three Lakes, Wisconsin.
Although not the premier class, one of the most exciting displays of raw power was put on by Pro Xtreme 55 racer Ryan Santry and his Hypersports Screaming Yellow Apex Yamaha. This new combination has yet to be fully dialed in and dug deep each launch with wild wheelies.
But the racers he beat—including defending class champion Brian Sullivan and runner-up Kyle Shilts—intend to step up in Three Lakes. “We will fix our clutch issue and be ready for the next race!” said Shilts. And Sullivan is always milking more out of his “John Deere” themed sled.
The blown nitro and turbo alcohol sleds of Outlaw are the stars of the show even when sitting still. Rice Lake winner Matt Musselman will likely have the bodywork fitted to his brand new Hypersports-built “Sno-Twister,” but damn, it was cool and quick running naked two weeks ago!
Jeff Ratzlaff’s “The Grinch” was the runner-up then with rider Mike Allen, and the 2022 champs hope to keep the candles lite the entire 500 feet at Three Lakes.
Defending Outlaw champion Dominick Ernst and the “Eagle-1,” owned by Snow Outlaw’s chieftains Chad and Jenny Nyhus, will get their Rice Lake issues ironed out and hunt for the win, along with the “Black Mamba” sled, Chris Connelly’s “Problem Solver” (with Jeremy Hannen riding), and many more.
The closest racing of all can be found in the Pro Mod class, where Kyle Baynes took the opening win over Tyler Stelton in a one-video-frame redlight final. It doesn’t get closer than that.
Austin Gibas, Devin Kirane, Jesse Bruns, Tom Brennan, Josh Borman, Candace Down, Aaron Casler, Blake Saltzman and more will all be aiming for Pro Mod glory at Three Lakes.
So spread the Valentines Day snowmobile love where your heart really desires to be—with the sexy sleds and brave riders of Snow Outlaws!
Remember, Snow Outlaws races are always FREE for spectators! Friday’s explosive nighttime qualifying is at 6:00pm, 7:00pm, and 8:00pm. Saturday’s eliminations start at noon with the finals running promptly at 4:00pm.
