Shawn Langdon spends more time driving a race car than driving a golf ball, but he’s enjoying an opportunity to hit the links today in the Arizona desert, the team announced today. The 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series resumes this weekend with the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California.
After winning last weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals, the 2013 NHRA Top Fuel champion is playing in today’s Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Global Credit Union Official Pro-Am prior to this weekend’s Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass. The tournament is set for Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass, located adjacent to Firebird Motorsports Park, the site of last weekend’s race.
Langon and three additional amateurs were paired with two different LPGA TOUR professional golfers during his 18-hole pro-am round, including California native Lucy Li. The professional golfers each played nine holes. World No. 1 golfer Nelly Korda leads a stacked LPGA TOUR field in this week’s tournament that includes 19 of the top-20 golfers in the world, 30 major champions and 51 Olympians.
“I think it’ll be a good time, and I’m excited to play,” Langdon said. “I don’t get to play as much golf as I used to, so it’ll be interesting; I just hope I can keep it in the fairway – maybe our pro players will give me some pointers. I’ve never played in a pro-am before so I don’t really know what to expect, but I’m sure just the experience of it will probably be the best part.”
Last week, prior to the NHRA Arizona Nationals, LPGA golfers Li and Ryann O’Toole joined NHRA drivers Jasmine Salinas and Maddi Gordon for some runs down the race track, and then the drivers joined the golfers at Whirlwind Golf Club for chipping and putting.
Langdon and his fellow amateurs were paired with their LPGA Tour professionals during last night’s Pro-Am Pairings Party. Langdon’s Pro-Am experience will be available through the Team Kalitta and NHRA social media channels and featured in this weekend’s NHRA on FOX Broadcasts from Pomona, Calif. Like most LPGA TOUR events, this tournament will be televised on Golf Channel. It is likely that one of the broadcasts will include clips from Langdon’s Pro-Am round.
