Ron Capps Preparing for Championship Push at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The stage is set for the NHRA Nevada Nationals as Ron Capps, the driver and owner of the NAPA Auto Parts Toyota GR Supra Funny Car, is preparing to make a push for the championship title. Currently ranked fourth in the Countdown to the Championship and a mere 99 points from the top position, Capps brings an impressive history of accomplishments and unyielding determination to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

With a storied career highlighted by six victories, four runner-up finishes, and three No. 1 qualifiers at this venue, Capps is no stranger to the pressure and expectations that come with competing at such a high-profile event. His recent quarterfinal finish underscores the competitive spirit and strategic racing that fans have come to expect from him.

In his second year as a team owner, Capps has balanced his dual roles, guiding Ron Capps Motorsports to a commendable performance in the 2023 season, marked by three wins, four runner-up finishes, and two No. 1 qualifiers. Notably, his first win as an NHRA team owner was clinched right here at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a victory that inaugurated a series of eight wins for Ron Capps Motorsports.

The upcoming event holds significant weight, potentially impacting the standings leading into the final stretch of the championship race. Despite a first-round exit in Dallas, the team’s morale remains unshaken, with sights firmly set on a strong rebound in Nevada.

“Here we are, same conversation. Headed to Vegas, two races to go and another chance to win a world championship,” said Capps. “Obviously, we would have liked to have been positioned better in the points going into this weekend, but it makes me extremely proud that our NAPA AutoCare team has put our Toyota Supra in a position to win a championship pretty much every season, and you can’t ask for more than that as a driver. And surely, you can’t ask for any more than that as a team owner. So, we’re excited to go to Vegas and try and move up in the points. There’s a lot that has to happen, and Vegas is one of those tracks that can be very unpredictable. For the fans, it’ll be very exciting and for us racers, it’s going to be nail-biting time, but, we love that.”
