Ron Capps Eyeing Victory at Gerber Collision & Glass NHRA Route 66 Nationals

Ron Capps, driver of the NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra Funny Car, is looking to build on early-season momentum and claim his first victory of the year at the Gerber Collision & Glass NHRA Route 66 Nationals presented by PEAK Performance. The sixth stop on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series takes place at the historic Route 66 Raceway, May 16–18.

Capps, a two-time winner at Route 66 Raceway with victories in the 2017 Route 66 Nationals and the discontinued fall event in 2005, has also recorded five runner-up finishes at the facility. With a solid early-season performance, including two runner-up finishes, the three-time Funny Car world champion is eager to secure his 77th career win.

“We always talk about what loyal fans we have in the Chicago area, going back a long way,” Capps said. “Having this race back on the schedule is fantastic, thanks to Gerber Collision’s support. It feels like a hometown race because most of our team lives in the Indy area. There’s nothing like getting into the winner’s circle in front of friends and family.”

Capps is riding positive momentum from a runner-up finish at the recent Charlotte event, which earned him a spot in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Funny Car Challenge this weekend. Notably, he captured his first-ever Mission #2Fast2Tasty victory during the 2023 Chicago event and looks to repeat that success.

Adding extra significance this weekend, Capps’ Toyota GR Supra will prominently feature TERREPOWER and Adaptive One Brakes, part of their substantial partnership with NAPA Auto Parts.

“This is a big weekend for us,” continued Capps. “It’s always exciting to showcase something you’re proud of on the car, especially with our partners TERREPOWER and Adaptive One Brakes. Guido (crew chief Dean Antonelli) and our entire NAPA Auto Care team have the confidence and momentum. We’re excited to deliver a strong performance this weekend.”
