Friday at the 2025 Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals set the stage for what promises to be another unforgettable weekend at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. From sunrise sportsman qualifying to late-evening nitro runs, fans were treated to a packed schedule that showcased nearly every corner of the sport. Among the highlights were the always-popular Sox & Martin HEMI Challenge, the high-stakes Deecell Power Systems Comp Clash, the first rounds of NHRA Pro Mod qualifying, and the opening sessions for the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series pros.

DI contributing photographer Kaitlyn Ward was on the property to capture the action as drivers and teams began their pursuit of U.S. Nationals glory. The gallery below features a look at Friday’s on-track competition and atmosphere. Qualifying continues Saturday and Sunday before eliminations take center stage on Monday.
