To gain some insight, we talked with The Fling Bracket Race Series’ Peter Biondo, whose enthusiasm for the upcoming event is exhilarating.

HOW DID THE FLING BRACKET RACE SERIES BEGIN, AND HOW HAS IT GROWN?

On December 31, 2009, Kyle Seipel and I celebrated the New Year in Lake Tahoe with our wives. We sat down on New Year’s Eve to plan our race schedule for 2010 but couldn’t find any races that got us excited. It was a time when the five-day races in Florida were dying out. Then we wondered, “Why can’t we create a race that people would get excited about?” The following day, Kyle and I each wrote down 10 bullet points that we thought would make for an exciting event. After a day of throwing our ideas back and forth, the Spring Fling was born. Four months later, we opened the gates for our first Fling at Bristol Dragway. Financially, it was a failure, but the post-race feedback we received was very positive, and that’s what pushed us to try again. We weren’t planning to put on a second event, as we always steered on the side of quality over quantity, plus we both had 9-5 jobs at the time. We soon realized that racers wanted more of us. As we expanded, it was clear that this was our passion. We eventually decided that if we were going to sustain the business model we created, we would have to do it full-time. It was then that the brand took off.

HOW WAS THE SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT FLING AT NORWALK PRESENTED BY TOTAL SEAL BORN?

In 2018, Kyle and I called Bill Bader to express our interest in having an event at Summit Motorsports Park. At that time, Bill wasn’t interested. We made a few more calls in 2021 and 2022, but again, we couldn’t reach an agreement. It was at our 2024 Fall Fling 500K at Bristol when I answered a surprise call from Bill. The call lasted only a minute. Bill asked, “Are you still interested in having a Fling event at my place?” I quickly replied, “Absolutely.” We agreed to follow up next week. After I got home from Bristol, Bill and I got on the phone again. It was a 2-hour candid conversation of back and forth comparing expectations. We closed the deal on that one call.

WHAT MAKES THIS EVENT STAND OUT FROM OTHERS?

Summit Motorsports Park focuses on bracket racers more than any other track I know. Their staff is very organized and fully dedicated. For example, Bill provides over one hundred electric spots for guests. When I asked Bill what he charges for them, he quickly replied, “It has always been free to our guests, and I would like to keep it that way.” That kind of mindset spread across a five-day Fling event is going to lead to something special.

WHAT CAN RACERS AND RACE FANS WHO HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A FLING BRACKET RACE SERIES EXPECT AT SUMMIT MOTORSPORTS PARK?

Our Fling events were built around racer appreciation and racer experience. We engage our racers from the time they enter the gates to the time they leave. Besides the purse, our media team and diva desk will call over 100 racers to the tower to give them a share of our $50,000 racer appreciation prize pool. Racers can expect an organized event where the bracket racer is the star of the show.
