Finnegan Fired Up for This Weekend’s Sick on the Green

Fan favorite Mike Finnegan will be making his third Sick appearance of the year at this weekend’s Sick On The Green at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Kentucky this Friday and Saturday.

Finnegan and his ’55 Chevy Gasser, known as “Blasphemi,” were last on track for Sick At The Rock in April, where he took two class wins (Gasser and Stick Shift) while competing in the Sick Street Car Challenge. The former host of the Roadkill show said that the temperamental race car has been showing improving behaviors.

“Blasphemi has been getting better and we’ve been learning what works,” he said. “I’m enjoying the car right now. Winning one category was cool, let alone two — but the best part was a giant check to take home!”

Finnegan will be aiming to keep Blasphemi firmly in the mid-eight second zone on the quarter-mile, while also finding time to enjoy thrills of a different kind.

“I haven’t ridden the coaster (at Beech Bend) in a while, so I’m excited to head back,” he laughed. “I’ve never been to the waterpark either! The family are coming with me. My son rode with me at Sick At The Rock and I think he’ll want to do the cruise with me again. Not my wife though, she has standards.”

Much of Finnegan’s efforts this year have been concentrated on preparing for Edelbrock Sick Smokies later this year, an event that will have a special focus on Gassers.

“I hope to see more Gassers in Kentucky,” he said. “With over 80 of them coming to Sick Smokies this year, I hope to see some of them this week for fun and some cool competition.”

Finnegan will be one of over 150 racers set to attend Sick On The Green across classes that also include Lil Gangstas, Small Tire Pro Stock, Coyote Stock, Nostalgia Muscle Car/Super Stock presented by Driven Racing Oil, Stick Shift presented by Tremec, Street Race 8.60 and Street Eliminator 10.10.

The event starts with testing on Thursday, followed by qualifying from 10 am on Friday and action from 10 am on Saturday. Racer entries are available online and at the gate. Spectator tickets are also available online and at the gate. For tickets and event information, head to: https://www.sickthemagazine.com/sick-on-the-green.
