NHRA legend and hall of famer “Big Jim” Dunn (above right) will undergo surgery for colon cancer next week. As a result, the Jim Dunn Racing team and Grime Boss Funny Car driven by Jeff Arend will not compete in NHRA’s Western Swing.
Dunn’s doctors are encouraged, stating that they caught the cancer in its earliest stages and predict an extremely positive outcome.
“We are grateful that this was discovered during his annual physical.” said Jim’s son, Jon Dunn. “Early diagnosis is crucial in his treatment and recovery. I can’t think of a single NHRA event Dad has missed, and know it won’t be long before he’s back.”
The Grime Boss Funny Car will rejoin the tour at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Aug. 15-17. There will be a pre-event autograph session and an appearance at Menards in Baxter, Minn., on Thursday of the race week.
Robert Julius, CEO of Nice Pak Products/Grime Boss, said, “The Nice Pak family, including everyone at Grime Boss, wishes Jim a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. We look forward to seeing him back out at the races soon.”
