Bakersfield’s own James Brown and Andy Spiegel both turned in standout performances at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 event, doubling up with victories in both Race #5 and Race #6. Brown swept the Super Street category, while Spiegel proved dominant in Top Dragster, securing wins on back-to-back race days.

The four-day event, which opened Thursday and wrapped up Sunday, saw strong competition across all categories. Michael Lane drove to victory in Super Comp, while longtime West Coast standout Lonnie Wilburn claimed the Super Gas title. In Competition Eliminator, Scott McClay found the winning formula, adding another highlight to his résumé.

Rising talents also shined at Famoso, with Trey Vetter taking the win in Super Stock, while Shelby Williams made her mark as one of the weekend’s lady champions by driving to victory in Stock Eliminator. In Top Sportsman, David Cook powered his way past tough competition to score the event win. On two wheels, Tom Medlin outlasted the field to capture the Sportsman Motorcycle trophy.

The combination of veteran racers and up-and-coming names gave fans a thrilling weekend of side-by-side racing, with local favorites and traveling competitors alike making their mark at the historic strip.
