Capps Takes Sonoma By Storm With #2Fast2Tasy Win and 337 MPH Blast, Falls in Close Quarterfinal Duel

Ron Capps gave the Northern California crowd plenty to cheer about at the Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals, delivering a signature #2Fast2Tasty Challenge win on Saturday and a jaw-dropping 337.41 mph run on Sunday — the quickest of his season so far.

Racing out of the No. 7 spot, the NAPA Auto Care Toyota GR Supra driver kicked off eliminations by taking out Chad Green with a 3.854-second rip. But in the quarterfinals, Capps fell in a razor-close drag race to rookie Spencer Hyde, despite leaving first and throwing down a 3.886 at 333.25 mph.

“There’s nothing we’d do differently — we ran what we wanted to run,” said Capps. “Sometimes you just tip your hat and move on. Spencer and those guys earned it.”

The highlight of Capps’ weekend came in Saturday’s Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, where he won on a holeshot in round one over Hyde, then took down Matt Hagan in the final with a 3.904-second run. It marked Capps’ fifth career Challenge victory and second of the 2025 season.

“Losing always stings, but when you’ve got a car this strong, it’s easy to stay upbeat,” said Capps. “We’re headed to Night Under Fire next weekend, and then Brainerd — two of my favorite stops. I feel like this NAPA team is peaking at the right time.”

With just two races remaining in the regular season, Capps sits fourth in the NHRA Mission Funny Car standings and carries momentum into the home stretch.
