Bob Tasca III Explains Why Austin Prock Was the Only Driver He’d Step Aside For

In a sport where seats are rarely surrendered willingly – especially at the championship level – Bob Tasca III made it clear that his decision to turn over Funny Car driving duties wasn’t driven by circumstance, pressure, or corporate maneuvering. It was driven by conviction.

Standing on stage at the Ford Racing Season Launch ’26 in Detroit, Tasca didn’t hesitate when explaining why reigning Funny Car champion Austin Prock is taking over the wheel of the Ford Performance Mustang Funny Car for the upcoming NHRA season.

“There’s nobody I was getting out of the seat for – except this guy,” Tasca said, motioning toward Prock during a live social media broadcast from the event.

That statement alone framed the move in unmistakable terms. This wasn’t a reshuffle or a quiet transition behind closed doors. It was a deliberate handoff, rooted in respect and belief – one competitor recognizing another as the right fit to carry the program forward.

For Tasca, the announcement marked more than just a driver change. It represented the beginning of a new chapter for Tasca Racing, one that blends championship-level driving talent with a deeper integration of one of drag racing’s most respected families.

“We’re thrilled,” Tasca said. “Not just to have Austin, but Jimmy, and Thomas, and Sam – the whole team.”

That distinction matters. In bringing Prock aboard, Tasca Racing didn’t simply add a driver with a title résumé. They added infrastructure, experience, and a proven performance mindset that has been built over decades in the sport. The Prock name carries weight not just for what Austin has accomplished behind the wheel, but for the collective knowledge and preparation that surrounds him.

Tasca made it clear that expectation – not sentiment – is driving the move.

“I can tell you right now, this Funny Car will be a force to be reckoned with this season,” he said.

“I’m excited,” Prock said. “It’s a great opportunity to race the Ford Racing Mustang.”

But as Tasca made clear, some decisions don’t require overthinking.

“There was nobody else,” he said. “Except this guy.”
