Bishop’s Performance Motorsports, the premier sportsman drag racing team native to Minnesota, is gearing up to defend their titles at the 2024 NHRA Lucas Oil Brainerd Nationals this weekend. After a stellar performance last year, the team is excited to carry the momentum forward as the defending champions and most recent track winner.
Steve Stockton, the reigning Top Sportsman champion, will once again take the wheel of the #SeaFoamWorks Bugs B Gone 1979 Malibu. Last year, Steve powered through five rounds of intense competition, ultimately defeating Rob Meservier in the finals with a blistering 6.796-second run at 198.67 mph on a 6.78 dial-in.
In the Super Gas class, Donnie Durenberger will defend his title in the #SeaFoamWorks 1969 Nova. Donnie claimed his second national event Wally last year, winning six rounds and taking down Don Westra in the final with a 9.935-second pass at 144.84 mph on the 9.90 ET quarter-mile index.
All of Bishop’s Performance Motorsports cars will be present at Brainerd International Raceway, including the Bugs B Gone junior dragster and a second junior dragster driven by Cam, who recently secured his first race win. Fans can look forward to a special event on Saturday at their pits, where Cam’s dragster will receive a live #SeaFoamWorks wrap installation.
Chris Bishop, who recently claimed victory in the Super Comp class at the Brainerd Divisional race, will also be competing this weekend. Chris clinched his sixth Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Wally after an intense final round, running an 8.912 at 160.90 mph to edge out Rick Milinazzo’s 8.915 at 171.55 mph in the quarter-mile 8.90 index class.
The team will kick off the exciting race with a display at the St Cloud, MN Auto Value Parts Store tomorrow for a Customer Appreciation Day starting at 10 AM. The event was a huge success last year, and the team is excited to engage with fans and showcase their winning machines once again.
Following the Brainerd Nationals, Bishop’s Performance Motorsports will visit Sea Foam International’s new office space in Bismarck, ND, where 300 workers and 150 vendors will be invited to see the cars on display and hear them roar to life.
“We’re excited to be back at our home track,” said Chris Bishop. “Being the defending champions, we’re thrilled to have the whole team here, and we can’t wait to put on a great show for our fans.”
