ANRA Summer Nationals Thrill Fans at Famoso Dragstrip

Tom Macht photos

Famoso Dragstrip roared to life last weekend as the ANRA Summer Nationals brought out a strong field of nostalgia racers, door-slammers, and dragster veterans for two days of old-school quarter-mile action. With warm summer weather and a packed pit area, fans were treated to side-by-side battles that showcased both horsepower and history.

In Nostalgia Eliminator 1, Joe Trotski claimed the top spot with a decisive win over Tom Mardis, while Lindsey Lister powered past Marc McCaslin to take the Nostalgia Eliminator 2 crown. In Nostalgia Eliminator 3, Kevin White outlasted Ashlee Ballstein in a tight final.

The always-popular Gas classes delivered plenty of excitement. Casey Treur put together a strong pass to defeat Keith Morovich in A/Gas, while Don Momi got the better of Tim Gorman in B/Gas. C/Gas saw Justin Lynch take down Wes Anderson, and in D/Gas it was James Burt edging out Bill Norton. Rounding out the ladder, Jim Hulse defeated Brad Thompson to secure the E/Gas trophy.

Thompson, however, didn’t go home empty-handed. He doubled up in Sportsman, driving past Pam Hulse for the win. The Open Wheel class went to Bob O’Neal, who outpaced Joey Petersen, while in Hot Rod competition Dean Kirkman held off Steve Archuleta to close out the weekend’s action.

The event proved once again why ANRA’s nostalgia program is a cornerstone of the Famoso schedule, blending competitive racing with the spirit of drag racing’s golden era. Fans now turn their attention to the next ANRA event, where more fierce rivalries and memorable moments are sure to unfold.
