Extreme Doorslammers hosted their season finale “Bridge Wars – Rep Yo Set” event September 18-19 at Cecil County Dragway, with 11 bad-to-the-bone Pro Mods on the property battling it out for the biggest purse of the year. The winner would receive $12,000, with payouts going back to the semifinalists.
Although Extreme Doorslammers is a N/T Pro Mod class, event promoters Gerrell Applo and Michael Walker decided to surprise the fans by turning the clocks on for the final round, where Texas native Doug Reisterer used a 3.65-second pass at 203 mph to defeat Andy Jensen’s 3.71 at 209 in his turbocharged small-block Camaro.
The final round was not without drama, however. As the two drivers lined up to stage, Jensen went over the allotted seven seconds and was timed out. However, Reisterer did not take the tree, with both cars being shut off. As the two cars sat on the starting line, Applo walked to Reisterer’s car and asked him if he wanted to take the win or line back up and race.
“I don’t want it like that. I want to race and give the fans a great final,” Reisterer replied.
With the fans cheering them on, the two proceeded to stage back up and decide it on the track, with Reisterer pocketing the $12,000 and event win.
On Friday evening, drivers were allowed two test hits before rolling straight into eliminations. In round one, Reisterer took little time making his presence known, ripping off a 3.577 elapsed time at 206 mph to outrun Chris Rankin, the second-quickest pass ever for a nitrous car at Cecil County. Track owner Jim Halsey had previously set the record two weeks prior with a 3.564 at 210.97 mph at the Yellowbullet Nationals.
The semifinal round would be a Texas vs. Florida battle, as Reisterer lined up against Justin Swanstrom and his Harts Charger-equipped “Survivor,” with Reisterer taking the win to reach the final round against Jensen.
