WCOPMA Venturing to Canada for First Time

Mike Maggio

For the first time ever the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (WCOPMA) will travel across the U.S.-Canadian border to compete this weekend (July 6-8), at Mission Raceway Park in Mission, British Columbia.

Many racers are approaching the event with high anticipation as great weather is forecast, with temperatures in the low 70s with very little chance of rain. Combine that with an actual track elevation of only 25 feet above sea level, as well as a killer racing surface and record times are expected.

Mike Maggio is making the long haul from Southern California with his 1970 Camaro which ran in the mid 5.70s last November at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. That team is going up with a big goal–to reset the world record for a doorslammer in the quarter-mile.

Joe Delehay

Also making the trip from Southern California will be Dan Nickelson who is gunning for a 2012 WCOPMA championship, as well as three-time WCOPMA champion Rod Burbage from Northern California. There will be a strong contingent of Canadian racers, too, as current track record holder Joe Delehay will be in attendance along with Trevor Lowe, Glen May, Jay Syverston, Wade Sjostrom, Duane Grosart and Dave Warren.

Friday July 6th will be an open test session for all racers. Saturday the 7th will host three qualifying runs for the 8-car qualified field scheduled for 3pm, 6pm and 9pm. Sunday is race day with eliminations beginning at 12 noon. All times local and are subject to change.
