For the bulk of the 2025 rendition of NHRA’s Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, Greg Anderson has been on top in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro. The six-time and reigning NHRA Pro Stock world champion entered the season with the best race car, and throughout the first seven events, he’s made a strong case for a seventh world title. On Friday in Norwalk at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, a true-to-form Anderson flew to the top and is in heated pursuit of his fourth No. 1 qualifier award of the season and 136th of his career
Anderson, the incoming points leader who has reached the final at every race so far this year, unloaded at Summit Motorsports Park and, off the trailer, threw down a massive run. His 6.633-second pass at 206.45 mph was quickest of the lot and came with three bonus points. In the later session, he was again the quickest of all with a 6.594, 206.76 in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet for three additional bonus marks.
The runs that Anderson made on Friday at Summit Motorsports Park were particularly impressive as the summer sun was burning into the racing surface and the air was thick with water grains, a dreadful deterrent to the naturally aspirated hot rods.
“This was not easy,” admitted Anderson. “My HendrickCars.com Chevrolet made a very nice run, but a lot of cars made nice runs down the racetrack. It probably just came down to shifting by 2,500 rpm somewhere down the racetrack better than somebody else, but that’s how even these cars are. The good news is that we got it done, and it’s going to be a great day tomorrow.”
Saturday will bring the highly anticipated GETTRX Pro Stock NHRA All-Star Callout, a specialty race that brings the best of best in Pro Stock to the table to battle for bragging rights and a $40,000 payday. The race features a call-out format, with drivers in order of position deciding their own opponent. Anderson, the top seed, selected rival Erica Enders as his first opponent.
The remaining match-ups are Dallas Glenn vs. Troy Coughlin Jr., Matt Hartford vs. Eric Latino, and Aaron Stanfield vs. Jeg Coughlin Jr.
“I’m looking forward to the GETTRX Callout; we’ve set the table well. We’ve got four of the KB Titan Racing cars in this thing, and they’re all fast,” said Anderson, who has been associated with Summit Racing for the bulk of his career. “To me, it’s homecourt advantage here – when I roll up there on the burnout and I look at the billboard with Summit Racing on it, it just feels like I’m home. My car thinks the same thing. It’s going to be a fun day, and we’ll see what we can do.”
Final qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals and the GETTRX All-Star Callout will take place on Saturday at Summit Motorsports Park.
