“Stevie Fast” Jackson had the drag radial world on watch when he showed up to Denton, Texas’ North Star Dragway with a set of skinny tires mounted on his orange Pro Nitrous ’69 Camaro. The fan-favorite driver whittled away at the drag radial elapsed time record throughout the course of qualifying and eliminations at the Radial Tire Racing Association’s (RTRA) Texas Nationals.
Jackson’s 3.793 in the first round of Pro Drag Radial competition was the first 3.7-second pass for a radial-equipped car. He lowered the boom with a 3.788 in the second round against Rodney Whatley’s supercharged “Jekyll”, then shattered the record when the nitrous-assisted Camaro crossed the finish line in 3.751 seconds at almost 202 mph in the final round. Andrew Alepa’s Rob Valden-driven 2015 Corvette was in the other lane laying down a 3.800 ET at 206.8 mph, making it the quickest side-by-side radial race.
