The drag strip at World Wide Technology Raceway (WWT Raceway) has undergone a significant transformation with the complete repaving of its asphalt racing surface, where the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) holds its annual national event.

This weekend, racers will have the honor of christening the new track during the test n’ tune and Carl’s Four Wheel Drive and Performance Center Bracket Series events, set to take place from Friday through Sunday.

The project, which was completed on Thursday, July 18, was a collaborative effort between WWT Raceway, NHRA, and leading motorsports racing surface consultants. Christ Brothers Asphalt, Inc., the same company responsible for repaving the WWT Raceway oval track in 2017, led the resurfacing work. They utilized a specialty blend of polymers and aggregate designed to optimize track preparation and endure the intense demands of 335-plus mile per hour Top Fuel Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars.

Following an inspection and consultation by Total Venue Concepts (TVC), the WWT Raceway track crew has been diligently preparing the new surface for its debut this Friday. The newly paved track promises to offer enhanced performance and safety for racers, aligning with the high standards of NHRA competition.

Looking ahead, the NHRA Midwest Nationals, scheduled for September 27-29, will be the first major event to take place on the new surface. This event is a crucial part of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship and is highly anticipated by fans and drivers alike. The NHRA Midwest Nationals is known for its thrilling racing action and is a key stop in the championship chase, making it a highlight of the NHRA tour.

Additionally, earlier this year, WWT Raceway faced challenges when high wind speeds caused damage to the west grandstands of the dragstrip during an April storm.

Despite these setbacks, the raceway has demonstrated resilience and commitment to providing a top-tier racing experience for all participants and fans.
