The annual United Manual Transmission Racers (UMTR) North vs. UMTR South race took center stage at National Trail Raceway on Saturday, September 7th, as part of the King of Columbus event. This highly anticipated race unites the two UMTR divisions for a day of friendly rivalry, with the coveted bragging rights at stake until next year. No matter whether you’re part of the North or South divisions, UMTR is all about family, and this event celebrates that bond.
Street Stick Showdown
In the Street Stick category, the North brought 12 cars to the first round, while the South edged ahead with 13. By round two, the North had five cars remaining, with the South holding onto eight. As the rounds progressed, the field narrowed. In round three, the North had four cars left while the South had three.
The drama heightened in round four, where UMTR North was represented by three cars, while RJ Fisse stood as the sole survivor for the South. In a nail-biting final, Fisse triumphed over Jeremy Murray, securing the Street Stick victory for UMTR South.
Quick Stick Showdown
The Quick Stick division saw even more action. Round one kicked off with 18 cars for the North and 19 for the South. By round two, the North was down to seven cars, while the South maintained a strong presence with 12. As round three unfolded, UMTR North had four remaining contenders, but the South continued to dominate with six.
In this pivotal round, UMTR South drivers Dennis Duvall, Tony King, Tug Brock, Mike Brewer, Gerry Waddell, and Deron Prewitt Sr. collectively eliminated the remaining North competitors, claiming victory for the South.
Mike Brewer ultimately clinched the Quick Stick title, posting a perfect .000 reaction time in the final against runner-up Tony King. Tug Brock rounded out the top three as a semifinalist.
A Memorable Day at the Track
It was a thrilling day of racing, camaraderie, and fierce competition among UMTR’s community of racers, friends, and fans. UMTR extends a special thank you to event sponsors RAM Clutches, Browell Bellhousings, and Empaco, as well as National Trail Raceway for providing an excellent track and hosting the event.
A huge shoutout goes to UMTR North’s Frank Madonia and Darlene Hrdlicka, along with UMTR South’s Tug Brock and Joni Holland, for organizing and executing another successful race. Their dedication and hard work made this event a highlight of the racing calendar.
Congratulations to UMTR South on your overall victory, and to all the winners, runners-up, and semifinalists for making the day unforgettable.
