Scott Higgs Talks Quarter-Mile Mania at Flying H Drag Strip

Flying H Drag Strip is set to erupt August 15–16 with the return of full quarter-mile Pro Modified racing in what’s shaping up to be the wildest door car spectacle the Show-Me State has ever seen. Dubbed Quarter Mile Mania, the two-day event will pit some of the baddest Pro Mods in the country against each other in a $45,000 winner-take-all showdown – no points, no politics, just pure, uncut racing for the money.

“These are the Evel Knievels of Pro Mod,” said track owner Scott Higgs. “They’re willing to do what no other Pro Mod racers are doing – go super fast, go quarter mile, and do it in front of a packed house. Missouri ain’t never seen this kind of speed.”

With speeds projected to exceed 250 miles per hour and elapsed times dipping well into the five-second zone, fans can expect a raw, sensory-overload display of horsepower and edge-of-your-seat action. It’s a throwback to the roots of Pro Mod racing, where stakes are high, and nothing is guaranteed.

But Quarter Mile Mania is about more than just what happens between the walls. It’s about the full show – from the thundering burnout to the firework finale.

“We want to give fans something they can’t get anywhere else,” said Higgs. “We’re talking driver intros, autograph sessions, t-shirt tosses in the stands, and the chance to get right up close to the action because every ticket is a pit pass.”

That’s right – fans won’t be separated by a fence or a pit wristband. Instead, they’ll be immersed in the culture of pro level drag racing, shaking hands with the stars, peeking under hoods, and feeling the ground shake as nitrous and boosted Pro Mods get ready to do battle.

The race is as serious as it gets. With $45,000 on the line, this isn’t a match race or an exhibition. It’s a winner-take-all pressure cooker that rewards the team who can survive the carnage and perform under the lights when it matters most.

“It keeps costing more and more to go race at this level,” Higgs added. “So we wanted to build something that not only makes financial sense for the racers but puts the spotlight back on them. It’s a bold show of support to the people who lay it all on the line.”

In addition to the marquee Pro Mod main event, Quarter Mile Mania will also feature a Triple Index Shootout with 8.60, 9.60, and 10.60 classes. This gives bracket racers and local hitters a chance to share the stage and throw down in front of the biggest crowd of the year at Flying H.

The track, located in Odessa, Missouri, has quickly become a destination for high-impact drag racing events, with its incredible surface, modern layout, and growing reputation for innovation and showmanship. The Quarter Mile Mania event follows that trajectory and raises the bar even further.

There’s a reason the buzz is growing online. From grassroots racers to seasoned Pro Mod vets, the buzz around this race isn’t just hype – it’s warranted. Big purse, full quarter-mile, winner-take-all. No games. No gimmicks.

“There’s something special about putting it all on the line,” Higgs said. “This race isn’t about points. It’s not about saving parts or playing it safe. It’s about who wants it bad enough.”

With big names already signaling interest and more expected to lock in over the coming days, the only thing left to do is show up, buckle up, and be ready. Missouri might not be ready – but the Flying H faithful sure are.
