The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series just made television history. Sunday’s eliminations coverage of the Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex drew a record-breaking 2.065 million viewers on FOX – the most-watched NHRA telecast ever.
Airing as the fourth of six races in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs, the event also peaked at an incredible 3.631 million viewers, marking the first time in NHRA history that a single broadcast surpassed the two-million-viewer mark.
This milestone follows another strong showing from the NHRA on FOX, as the 71st annual Cornwell Quality Tools U.S. Nationals earlier this year delivered 1.036 million viewers – the most-watched live broadcast of the prestigious event to date.
“This record-setting broadcast is a testament to an exceptional production team – truly the best in the business at delivering drag racing action to our loyal fans with unmatched commitment and passion,” said NHRA Vice President of Broadcast Steve Reintjes. “This milestone also wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Meyer family and their team at the Texas Motorplex, along with our valued partners at FOX Sports, race teams, and sponsors.”
The Texas FallNationals wrapped up the massive Stampede of Speed, a ten-day celebration of motorsports and entertainment, with on-track drama that lived up to the hype. Fans tuning in on FOX watched Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car), Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock), and Richard Gadson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) earn crucial victories during the high-stakes playoff weekend.
“We are thrilled to have showcased the Stampede of Speed and Texas FallNationals to a record-setting television audience,” said Texas Motorplex Co-Owner Christie Meyer Johnson. “Thank you to the NHRA and FOX for providing us with this platform. Working together, we were able to introduce a huge new audience to the excitement of NHRA drag racing.”
The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season will conclude with two remaining races, both airing on FS1 – the Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals powered by Direct Connection on Sunday, Nov. 2 (5 p.m. ET), and the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals in Pomona on Sunday, Nov. 16 (4 p.m. ET).
