Keith Haney showcased his racing experience at the Mid-West Drag Racing Series event that coincided with the Night of Fire & Thunder driven by KSHE-95, held at the renowned World Wide Technology Raceway. Facing fierce competition from superchargers, blowers, and turbos, Haney’s nitrous-powered car stood out among the 21 Pro Mods competing at the event. Haney impressively qualified as the top nitrous car, securing the fourth position.
A special highlight of the event was the Pro Mod debut of Ryan Bush. Bush, driving his Pat Musi nitrous-powered first-gen Camaro, started his racing journey with the Mid-West Drag Racing Series at Flying H Drag Strip in the Pro 4.20 Class. For this event, he made significant upgrades, moving from a single kit to four stages. His best performance of the weekend was a 4.05x, signaling a promising future as he prepares for the 2025 Pro Mod season while continuing to compete in the Pro 4.20 Class when possible.
In the first round of Pro Mod, all nitrous racers faced blower cars. Out of the five nitrous competitors, only Haney advanced past the first round. Despite the challenges, Haney’s determination was evident as he prepared for round two against Ed Thornton, known as “Mr. MPH,” and his twin-turbo ’70 Camaro. After Thornton’s impressive 212 MPH pass in E1, Haney knew the race would be tough. In a close contest, Thornton edged out Haney with a 3.717 to Haney’s 3.733.
Following a strong performance at the Night of Fire & Thunder, Haney and his team are gearing up for the next race in the Mid-West Drag Racing Series, set to take place in Martin, MI, in September. Before then, Haney plans to enjoy some well-deserved family time over the 4th of July holiday.
