The NHRA Northwest Nationals ended six-thousandths of a second too soon for Greg Anderson and his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro, but the most winning driver in the history of Pro Stock is already shifting his attention to what lies ahead, the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals, which will kick off in just five days.
As the No. 4 qualifier in Seattle, Anderson scooped up eight valuable bonus points and used KB Titan Racing horsepower to rocket to a best time of 6.521-second at 209.95 mph to set the tone for raceday.
Heading into the event – the 545th of an esteemed career that has so far included five Pro Stock championship titles and 105 national event wins – Anderson was No. 2 in the Pro Stock Points, trailing KB Titan Racing teammate Dallas Glenn by just 89 marks. Anderson made up a bit of ground in qualifying, but Glenn, who qualified in the No. 13 position, came ready on Sunday morning.
In a match between the top two players in the standings, Anderson and Glenn offered the crowd one of the most intense matches of the day. They left the starting line just .020-second apart, and at the top end, Glenn eclipsed Anderson’s low elapsed time of the round for a 6.528, 209.79 to 6.514, 210.73 win.
“It was a great race,” said Anderson. “Unfortunately for me, it didn’t go in my favor. Aside from the first numbers, our side of the time slip looked great – but you have to have the whole package, every time.”
Although disappointed, Anderson couldn’t help but see the bright side for not only his own HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro but also for the ever-strengthening KB Titan Racing team.
“If I can look past what happened there in first round, there is really a lot to be proud of and excited about,” said Anderson.
“I’m just so proud of the KB Titan Racing team. Cory Reed made his Pro Stock debut, and he did a great job; I think his future is very bright. I’m certainly looking forward to getting to Sonoma with how my HendrickCars.com Chevrolet was performing today, but more than one of the cars in our camp showed what they’re capable of. We’ve got a few days before the next race, but I wish we could go tomorrow. I’m ready.”
The next race on the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series schedule will be the DENSO NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway, July 26-28, 2024.
