The 2025 Spring Throwdown in T-Town at Osage Casino & Hotel Tulsa Raceway Park delivered a defining moment in the history of the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS), as the Wells and Pennington families combined to win five of the event’s seven contested classes.
Aaron and Tyler Wells made MWDRS history with a father-son sweep in Pro Mod and Top Sportsman, respectively, marking the first time the duo captured top-class wins on the same night. Sixteen-year-old Tyler claimed his first “big car” win in his Top Sportsman debut, while his father, Aaron, powered his newly repainted “Bullitt” Mustang to the Pro Mod win after overcoming mechanical issues in qualifying.
The Pennington family added three more trophies to the family legacy, taking wins in Top Dragster and sweeping both Junior Dragster categories. Keith Youngblood, driving for Wade Pennington, secured the Icon Forged Pistons Top Dragster victory, while Karlee and Jovee Brundidge claimed wins in Pro and Sportsman Junior Dragsters.
In Stroud Safety Pro Mod presented by Larry Jeffers Race Cars, Aaron Wells defeated Jacob McNeal’s Scott Palmer-tuned Barracuda with a 3.619-second pass in the final round. Pro Mod also featured notable debuts from Florida-based racers Bob Glenn and Robert Davis, while Funny Car standout Ray Martin made a crossover appearance to win Pro Mod Slammers in Jim Whiteley’s Camaro.
Top Sportsman saw Tyler Wells outlast a stacked field to defeat Todd Stallbaumer in the final, drawing a standing ovation from the Tulsa crowd.
In other class highlights:
- Funny Car: Jim Whiteley laid down the quickest run of the event (3.608) to beat defending champ Steven Macklyn in the J&A Service Funny Car final.
- Pro 4.20: Defending champion Dave Pierce used a .005 reaction time to hold off Case Hudelson and extend his points lead.
- No Time 28: Lance Knigge took the win, but the spotlight was on Roy Allen for his remarkable save after a major engine failure.
The Summit Racing Equipment MWDRS returns later this month at the Shakedown in M’Town in Martin, Michigan, for a combined show with Duck X Productions, featuring MWDRS points classes and outlaw radial categories.
