Encouraged by last year’s track record-setting 335.57 miles per hour speed and motivated by the early-season success of her John Force Racing teammates, two-time Top Fuel world champion Brittany Force hopes to unleash a Monster this weekend in the 12th renewal of the NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway.
Denied two weeks ago when she was upended in the first round of the Route 66 Nationals at Chicago, Ill., Force again will try to secure the 300th round win of her pro career and join an elite group of only 11 other Top Fuel drivers able to achieve that feat in the 75-year history of the NHRA series.
“We’re ready to get back to a track where we’ve had success in the past,” said the 17-time tour winner. “We won in 2017, the year we won our first championship, and last season, with David Grubnic at the helm, our Monster Energy dragster set the track speed record at over 335 mph.
“After a low qualifying position in Chicago (where she started from the No. 12 spot), we’re focused on qualifying top five, where we’ve typically been all season,” she said. “Both my teammates (Funny Car drivers Austin Prock and Jack Beckman) have won this season and that gives us extra motivation. We want to join the party this weekend.”
The NHRA national record holder for both time (3.623 seconds at Reading, Pa., in 2019) and speed (341.59 mph just six weeks ago at Charlotte, N.C.), the second youngest of John Force’s drag racing daughters is chasing more than just one piece of history this weekend.
Not only can she join Top Fuel racing’s all-male 300-round wins club, she can also tie the legendary Shirley Muldowney for most Top Fuel wins by a woman and, in so doing, take a big step toward a third series title.
The elapsed time record holder at seven of the 17 tracks that currently make up the Mission Foods tour, Brittany will be trying to put her high-profile car on the drag racing equivalent of the “pole” for the 54th time in her career, the 34th time in the last five seasons.
